Responsible for the leadership of the Human Resources Division across Asia Pacific.
Damien leads all areas of Liberty’s Human Resources activities including recruitment, compensation and benefits, training and development, communication and culture initiatives as well as developing, implementing and coordinating HR policies and programs that support the business strategy.
Damien has a Bachelor of Commerce and over 20 years' experience in the human resources profession across a number of industries including insurance, pharmaceuticals, accountancy, law, finance and the not for profit sector.
Vice President, Professional & Financial Risks, Surety & Global Financial Risks Claims - Asia Pacific
Robert manages the Professional & Financial Risks and Surety Divisions' team of Claims Specialists across the Asia Pacific Region and is responsible for the provision of strategic, technical and market facing claims leadership, support and co-ordination.
Robert joined LIU in 2015 with more than 16 years of experience in Australia and the United Kingdom in the insurance industry, both in senior positions within other insurance companies and as a lawyer in private practice. Robert has managed and defended claims against engineers, architects, construction professionals involved in both small and large scale construction and infrastructure projects, directors and officers, financial institutions, financial services companies and professionals in other sectors.
Robert is a qualified lawyer who has practiced in New South Wales and Queensland.
Brett manages LIU’s oil, gas, petrochemical and chemical portfolio across Asia Pacific. He is also Portfolio Manager for power generation and heavy industries across Australia and New Zealand.
Brett started his insurance career in 1997 having worked as a direct insurance broker for some of the largest Australian energy and mining companies in the market. He also has experience writing marine, aviation and energy risks for a large international reinsurer.
Brett joined LIU in 2002 and since then he has worked in our Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore offices. His experience resides in the oil and gas industry, where he has written policies for a large number of the regions refining, petrochemical and LNG producers, as well as the oil and gas transportation sector, gas treatment and separation, coal seam methane and chemical industries.
Brett has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of New England.
As a member of the LIU Marine risk engineering team, Hanghei is involved in risk assessment of the full suite of our marine risks, including Commercial Hull, Ship Builder’s, Marine Liabilities and Exploration & Production, with a special emphasis on Project Cargo risks, across Asia Pacific and Europe.
Hanghei joined LIU Singapore at the beginning of 2015 with more than a decade of experience working as a Heavy Lift and Transport engineer in the UK and Asia. His experience includes the conceptual planning and implementation of transport and heavy crane lifts for major projects globally, HAZCON risk assessment studies, method statements, detailed lifting and transport studies, heavy rigging equipment inspections and the technical review of subcontract tenders, as well as practical, on-site experience.
Hanghei holds a HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
Vice President, Professional & Financial Risks - Asia
Ann is the Asia head for all products within the Professional & Financial Risks portfolio, including — but not limited to — Professional Indemnity (PI) (such as Commercial, Construction, Construction Project and Financial Institutions PI), Investment Manager’s insurance, Umbrella Defence Costs, Information Technology Liability, Cyber, Directors' & Officers' Liability and Side A insurance.
Ann has worked in the Professional & Financial Risks sector since 2001 and has been with LIU since 2005. She has predominantly worked in the Australian region with some exposure to the Asian regions. In addition to her focus on underwriting, prior to her appointment to the current role, she managed one of the largest Professional & Financial Risks portfolios and underwriting teams in Australia.
Ann has a Bachelor of Commerce in finance, risk and insurance and she maintains a long-standing interest in workplace mentoring and training.
Manages LIU's Workers Compensation portfolio in Asia.
Tom has over 14 years in the insurance industry. He started his career as a broker for a large international brokerage in Sydney, Australia.
In 2003 he joined LIU where Tom was a General & Products Liability underwriter in our Sydney branch until he transferred to our Kuala Lumpur office where he was responsible for our Malaysian Casualty portfolio. In 2015, Tom was promoted to Workers Compensation Manager where he currently works in our Singapore office.
Tom holds a Master of Business in Financial Services from University of Technology and is an ANZIIF Fellow.
Senior Risk Engineer, Energy Property Construction
Imelda is a Risk Engineer supporting Singapore's Energy Property Construction Division.
Before joining Liberty, Imelda worked for FM Global in Malaysia and Singapore providing risk engineering/loss prevention consultancy services for Asian clients across industries including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, chemicals, electronics and mechanical equipment manufacturing.
Li Sa is based in Singapore and handles Third Party Liability claims in Asia.
With over a decade of experience in the insurance industry, Li Sa has a strong background in liability claims. Prior to joining LIU, Li Sa specialised in personal injury claims, litigation management and dispute resolution.
Li Sa holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in General Insurance.
Chow joined Liberty in 2003 and heads up the Risk Engineering Division responsible for all risk management activities in Asia, supporting underwriting and claims as part of the Energy, Property & Construction Division.
Chow has done extensive risk management work in Asia, including site surveys, in-house risk assessment and risk engineering/loss prevention consultancy, across industries ranging from oil, gas and petrochemicals to manufacturing, logistics, and IT.
A graduate chemical engineer, Chow has 10 years experience in risk engineering for the insurance industry.
Chow’s non-insurance experience includes 7 years in the petrochemical industry in Singapore working on process engineering, operations, Greenfield project turnover and start-up.
James manages larger Commercial and Corporate Property claims across a wide range of industries, and also claims resulting from LIU’s Product Recall and Contaminated Products Insurance Policies.
James has a claims broking and claims examining background.. He was initially a claims broker in the London insurance market, working for 2 major international broking houses, liaising with insurers in the Reinsurance, Casualty and First Party space.
He relocated to Sydney in 2001 as a Senior Reinsurance Claims Officer for a major reinsurer.
In 2008, James moved to First Party Property, examining Commercial, Strata and Householders claims with major insurers in the Australian Market, before joining LIU in 2012.
He has been engaged in managing Energy Property Construction claims for 4 years, and Crisis Management Claims for over 2 years, within LIU.
James has a Bachelor of Arts (honours) degree in Business Studies from the University of Greenwich, London, and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations, from the University of New South Wales.
Working with a geographically dispersed team, Steve is responsible for the management of the Civil Construction product line globally.
Steve joined Liberty in July 2008 with a mandate to formulate and execute a strategy for the global roll-out of Civil Construction as a new product line within Liberty. Prior to joining Liberty, Steve spent just under 20 years at Swiss Reinsurance, finishing there as Head of Engineering, Asia. During his time at Swiss Re, he was primarily involved in the insurance of major construction projects worldwide working in South African, London, Zurich and Australian markets. Before his time in reinsurance, Steve spent 10 years in a variety of site-related construction activities including bridge, mining and structural erection projects.
Steve comes from a Civil Engineering background, has a Bachelor of Commerce and is an Associate of the Insurance Institute and a Fellow of the Risk Management Institute of South Africa.
Senior Underwriter, Professional & Financial Risks
Lauren is a Senior Underwriter for LIU’s Professional & Financial Risks Portfolio, specialising in Construction and Non-Construction Project PI and Commercial Annual PI for South Asia.
Lauren has over 10 years’ experience working in Hong Kong across all classes of Financial Lines insurance. In 2010 she moved to Singapore to become Financial Lines manager for a leading insurance company.
In 2011, Lauren joined LIU bringing with her invaluable experience in both the North and South Asian market.
Lauren is an affiliate member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Finance (ANZIIF) and is a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter with the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.
Sang Jin is the Casualty Underwriter & Business Development Manager for the Korean market and provides underwriting for CGL, Product Liability and Construction and TPL including Offshore Construction Liability.
Sang Jin has an MSc. in Insurance and Risk Management from City University in London and nearly 15 years insurance/reinsurance experience across underwriting and broking.
Michelle is responsible for managing the LIU Surety portfolio across Asia.
Michelle worked as an underwriter specialising in Trade Credit and Surety for a major international insurance company before joining LIU in March 2017. She has previously worked in commercial finance for a multinational energy company and in marketing and investor relations for a boutique Asian hedge fund.
Michelle holds a Masters in Finance from Grenoble École de Management, and a BBA (Hons) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Claims and Technology, Strategy and Change Management
Vanessa manages the Claims and Technology Divisions for the Asia Pacific Region
Vanessa has been handling claims since 1995 and has managed a range of claims including Professional Indemnity, Directors’ & Officers’ Liability, Bankers’ Blanket Bond, Compulsory Third Party, Public and Products Liability, Property, Marine, Engineering and Crisis Management claims.
She joined Liberty in 2001 and since that time has held a number of positions within the company, including Vice President Claims and Legal Counsel for Liberty’s Asia Pacific operations. Since joining Liberty she has also participated in policy wording development on a cross lines basis.
In 2012 Vanessa was appointed Senior Vice President Claims and Technology for the Asia Pacific Region.
Prior to joining Liberty Vanessa worked at a number of Australian insurers. This gave Vanessa exposure to a wide range of products, wordings and claims sizes. Vanessa has handled claims in jurisdictions throughout Australia and Asia.
Angus oversees the Casualty, Workers Compensation and Crisis Management claims team across the Asia Pacific Region working closely with underwriters, claims professionals and risk engineers to ensure optimum outcomes.
Angus has over 25 years of commercial experience including 18 years leading a niche casualty claims management, adjusting and investigation business. Most recently Angus was General Manager of a large Australian loss adjusting business overseeing all professional claims staff across multi lines. Angus is highly regarded for his drive, attention to detail and client focussed approach.
His qualifications include Bachelor of Business, Executive Certificate in Insurance, ANZIIF (Fellow), CIP, FAIM.
Michael leads the LIU Asia Pacific Crisis Management team from his base in the LIU Sydney office.
Michael began his career in insurance while still at university, working part-time in administration for a general insurance company. After graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, he worked for five years, first in motor and householders’ insurance and then in contingency insurance, before moving into crisis management insurance with a leading global insurance company.
Michael joined LIU in 2009 with eight years’ experience in crisis management insurance.
Angelo leads Liberty's Casualty risk engineers across the Asia Pacific, providing technical support for Underwriting and Claims and coordinating efforts with Liberty's risk engineering resources in North America and Europe.
His work involves site visits and desk reviews for clients across construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, chemical plants, rail transport and infrastructure. He also drives Liberty's risk engineering capability, developing in-house policy and thought leadership and training for staff and clients.
Before joining Liberty, Angelo worked as a risk engineer specialising in product liability. He has also worked as civil engineer, project manager and contract manager. He has Civil Engineering qualifications from RMIT, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Management.
As Risk Engineer within Liberty’s Energy and Construction Division, Imran works with Liberty staff in Singapore, providing technical support for underwriting and claims for first party lines of businesses across Asia.
Part of this involves site surveys of commercial and industrial properties, as well as construction projects. The properties or projects can involve office buildings, hotels, as well as various kinds of manufacturing facilities within Asia.
Prior to joining Liberty, Imran spent 10 years as a risk engineer in FM Global, and 5 years in the construction industry in Singapore.
Ben oversees the management of Liberty’s activities throughout Asia.
Based in Singapore, Ben is responsible for development and execution of regional strategies related to product disciplines and geographical functions for Asia.
His role is focused around identifying opportunities to increase revenue, productivity and profitability and encompass development and maintenance of relationships with brokers, cedants, reinsurers, approved actuaries, auditors, bankers and regulators.
He is also responsible for the management of the Liberty team based in both the Singapore and Hong Kong office.
Ben has over 15 years' experience in the insurance industry. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from the University of Technology.
Senior Underwriter, Professional & Financial Risks
Louise is an Senior Underwriter for LIU’s Professional & Financial Risks Portfolio, focusing on Professional Indemnity in South Asia.
Louise has over 8 years' experience in the insurance industry. Prior to joining LIU in 2012, Louise gained over 3 years’ broking experience with a large international brokerage firm in Malaysia before moving to Singapore and transitioning into underwriting Financial Lines.
Louise holds a Bachelor of Business (Law) from Monash University.
Adrian is a Risk Engineer supporting our Casualty team. He conducts site visits and desk reviews, helping our underwriters to correctly evaluate potential exposures and understand each risk. Adrian's responsibilities also include post loss evaluations which can help prevent losses reoccurring.
Adrian comes to Liberty with over 10 years risk engineering experience. He started his career in 2005 working for Insight Adjusters & Surveyors before becoming manager at AJAX Adjusters & Surveyors from 2011 - 2013, Adrian started at Crawford & Company, an international claims solutions provider, before joining LIU in 2015.
Adrian holds a Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, he is an Associate of the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters and a Senior Associate of ANZIIF.
Joyce is responsible for growing the LIU Crisis Management portfolio in Asia. Her areas of focus include Product Recall, Product Contamination and Kidnap and Ransom insurance.
Joyce has over 15 years' underwriting experience in the insurance industry.
Joyce joined LIU in 2006 and was initially responsible for the management, development and underwriting of Casualty business in North Asia before joining the LIU Crisis Management team in May 2017.
Joyce hold a Higher Diploma of Insurance Studies (Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education), a BA (Hons) in Business and Marketing (University of Portsmouth, UK) and she is a Senior Associate of ANZIIF.
Jonathan manages the Surety operations for LIU across the Asia Pacific region.
Jonathan has more than a decade of experience in the Surety business, the first seven years of which were gained in various underwriting roles for Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe Ltd. while he was based in the UK. He relocated to Australia in early 2014 to join the LIU Sydney team as National Surety Manager (Australia). Jonathan was appointed Regional Surety Manager (Asia Pacific) in March 2016.
Jonathan holds a BA in Business Economics (1st class) and is an Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding. He has been a Director of the Australian Surety Association since November 2014.
Senior Vice President & Chief Underwriting Officer, Construction
Alan is responsible for Liberty’s Energy and Construction Division business in Asia and is global Chief Underwriting Officer for the Construction product line.
Alan has over 40 years' experience in underwriting and management in the U.K., U.S. and Australia. Over the past 20 years he has focused exclusively on Energy and Construction in the Asia Pacific region and has developed extensive relationships with key producers, ceding companies and clients.
Alan is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of the U.K.
Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President Asia Pacific
Guy is Liberty’s global Power-Generation Practice Leader, and heads Liberty Australia’s team of EPC Engineers.
Based in Sydney, he works across the Asia-Pacific region conducting site surveys and assessing risk in oil and gas production; refining; pipelines; gas liquefaction; power generation; and construction projects. His key priorities are in providing global and regional direction with technical support to Liberty’s underwriters, fellow engineers and claims staff, as well as providing risk control expertise to brokers and clients.
Guy holds a PhD in boiling heat transfer mechanisms. He has worked internationally in fields as diverse as deep-level mining, finite-element modelling, consulting, design, lecturing, and in the development of cryogenic satellite test facilities.
He gained specialist expertise in forensic engineering investigations while living in the UK, before joining Liberty in 1999.
A Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia, Guy is also a Chartered Engineer (UK), a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK), and a Chartered Professional Engineer (Australia), including registration under Queensland legislation.
Puspa is based in Singapore and is responsible for all LIU Marine claims throughout Asia.
Puspa joined LIU in 2007. She has been handling marine claims since 1994.
Puspa started her career as a lawyer working in the UK and Singapore, focusing on the marine market. She then joined a well known marine loss adjusters company where she was responsible for managing claims and recoveries. She subsequently joined the managers of the world’s largest P&I Club handling all aspects of marine claims for shipowners, logistic and terminal operators, dealing with charter party disputes, advising on cover issues and conducting seminars for the Club members.
Puspa spent a year working as a legal officer to the United Nations World Food Programme in Rome, Italy.
She qualified with a Masters in Law at King’s College, London specialising in marine subjects. She has also been called to the English and Singapore Bar.
Responsible for Portfolio Management and New Business Development (Asia Pacific) and for the analysis and pricing of risk in General Cargo, Project Cargo, Marine and General Liability and Hull (Ship Builders Risks) sectors.
Robert began his career in the marine insurance industry in 1997. Since then, he has gained experience across both claims and underwriting. His experience extends to numerous types of infrastructure projects requiring marine cargo and DSU coverage.
Rob holds a Diploma in General Insurance through ANZIIF.
Vice President, Claims - Energy Property Construction Terrorism, Asia Pacific
In addition to his claims leadership role, Simon’s responsibilities encompass management of the people, planning and market engagement of the LIU EPCT (Asia) underwriting team.
Simon has considerable market knowledge of the Asian region, having worked throughout the region while living in Indonesia, Vietnam and, more recently, Singapore. His previous role was Regional Director of Claims for a large multinational insurance broker and he has also worked for 2 major international loss adjustors in the region. His experience spans complex claims management, business and team leadership and client engagement. Simon joined LIU Singapore in early 2017.
Simon holds a CILA (Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters) Advanced Diploma and a CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) Diploma in Insurance (Claims).
Noel manages the Liberty Casualty Division in the Asia Pacific, and has global product oversight of Casualty.
Noel has over 35 years of Casualty insurance experience, is a member of Liberty’s regional executive management team, and is Chief Underwriting Officer, Global Casualty.
Noel has helped position Liberty as a leading market in the Asia Pacific region, working with international and regional brokers to deliver solutions for a wide range of diverse clients.
Noel is a sought after industry commentator, regularly speaking on Casualty and other insurance issues to industry bodies and professional associations.
Senior Underwriter, Marine and Exploration & Production
Alex is based in Liberty's Singapore office with a focus on marine risk management in the Asia Pacific.
A Master Mariner with twelve years at sea, Alex spent a number of years as a Marine Surveyor and Consultant acting for Underwriters, Admiralty Lawyers and P & I clubs investigating incidents concerning bulk oil and chemical cargoes, vessel and collision damage as well as vessel salvage and wreck removal operations.
With extensive experience across all aspects of marine transportation, Alex has conducted numerous JH143 Risk Assessment Warranty Surveys for underwriters concerned with Asia Pacific shipyards.
He is a Member of the Nautical Institute who has also worked on major onshore and offshore construction projects.
Claims Manager, Workers' Compensation and Third Party
